Introducing: Hoogah

If you’ve spent any time in Swansea’s Uplands, there’s a good chance you’ve come across Hoogah. Sitting on Brynymor Road, Hoogah has been part of the neighbourhood since 2017, building a reputation for good coffee, good food, good events and most importantly, bringing people together. It’s also a relationship we’re particularly proud of, having worked with the team for many years.

There’s plenty of personality to Hoogah. The space has a relaxed, slightly funky feel that makes it equally suited to a slow coffee, a catch-up over brunch or settling in for a few drinks with friends. Their approach is rooted in keeping things local, with close relationships with the breweries, bakers, farmers and roasters they work with. It’s not about following a particular formula, but about creating somewhere people actually want to spend time. That local focus comes through in the food and drink, too. During the day, Hoogah serves specialty coffee alongside fresh, home-cooked food, brunch favourites and baked goods, including Little Valley Bakery products. Their close relationships with suppliers mean the menu can evolve with what’s available, while keeping quality and provenance front and centre.

And there’s plenty happening beyond what’s on the menu. Hoogah has become something of a fixture for events in the Uplands, regularly opening its doors to live music, DJs, pop-ups, parties and collaborations. From funk and soul nights with The Vinyl High Club to events bringing local collectives together, the space has a knack for turning an ordinary evening into something a little more interesting. Their drinks offering helps too. Alongside the coffee, you’ll find a rotating selection of beers, spirits and cocktails, with local producers featuring heavily. There are also food pop-ups from local street food chefs, giving people another reason to keep an eye on what’s coming up at Hoogah.

But perhaps the best thing about Hoogah is the sense that it genuinely belongs to the area. The team have built long-standing relationships with their customers, many of whom have been coming back over the years and that sense of familiarity is a big part of what makes the space work. Their own ethos is centred around creating a comfortable place people can return to and it shows. They’ve also consistently used the space to support the wider Swansea community, from charity events and fundraising to giving local businesses, musicians and creatives a platform. Their events calendar is as much about creating opportunities for the people around them as it is about putting on a good night. Their five-year celebrations, for example, brought together the Hoogah team and UNHU, a collective built around music and bringing people together.

That community-first approach is a big part of why our relationship with Hoogah has lasted so long. They’re the kind of independent business that understands that hospitality is about more than what you put in a cup or on a plate. It’s about the people who walk through the door, the producers behind the products, the musicians playing in the corner and the local businesses and organisations that help make a neighbourhood what it is. For us, it’s been brilliant to watch Hoogah evolve over the years while keeping that same spirit at its core. We’re proud to continue supplying their coffee and to be part of a relationship that has grown alongside the business.

Hoogah has carved out its own little corner of Swansea’s Uplands, and it’s one that feels properly connected to the community around it. Good coffee, Little Valley baked goods, local drinks, live music, events, familiar faces and plenty of things happening throughout the week, all with a distinctly Hoogah twist. It’s exactly the kind of independent place we love working with and we’re looking forward to seeing what they get up to next.
