Our
Coffee

Our coffee

Coffee is a complex and Diverse Agri-commodoity traded globally. Some of the best coffee in the world grows in some of the most remote locations. From growing, harvesting, hulling, drying, packing, transporting, roasting and finally brewing - We aim to build direct trade relationships around the globe.

Coaltown has always been focused on accountability and transparency throughout our supply chains. We seek the most advantageous procurement route for the life and sustainability of all projects and We’re committed to reducing our direct impact on the environment.

Sourcing Coffee

Direct: without intervening factors or intermediaries.

Trade: the act of buying and selling goods and services.

We prefer to deconstruct traditional supply chains and develop direct trade value chains. WE are able to forge Strong Relationships with producers across the globe. This helps develop Transparency to ensure that every party involved can provide value and share equity. We see everyone in the value chain as a unique part of a very complex puzzle which requires Joint Investment.

Third wave coffee culture is all about quality and Traceability, direct trade relationships make it easier to connect consumers with producers. Intimate logistics help reduce the complexity and middle men associated with traditional supply chains delivering better value to our customers. Mutual Trust & Respect are the vital components that underpin our sourcing programme.  this is the only way that we can ensure the longevity and success of our business.

Roasting Coffee

Our coffee is roasted daily in our Ammanford Roastery using our Probat GG75 Roaster and a 12kg Probat Roaster.

Roasting coffee requires a careful and methodical approach; monitoring time, temperature, smell and colour change. We aim to develop the natural make-up of each coffee to help create the best possible cup.

Our GG75, Geoffrey, is a custom-restored roaster with a 75kg capacity, which we use to roast our house blend coffees and a number of our more popular single origins, and we use our new 12kg Probat to roast smaller batch single origins.

The alchemy of roasting coffee is both a science and an art. The more care and attention we give to each step, the more rewarding the final brew becomes.

Sustainability

Coaltown has always been focused on accountability and transparency throughout our supply chains. We seek the most advantageous procurement route for the life and sustainability of all projects and We’re committed to reducing our direct impact on the environment. We also aim to create a workplace that encourages diversity and equality of opportunity for all.

Our plan is to promote Specialty Coffee as a means of providing industry and community to post industrial mining towns. This means we have met the highest standards of environmental and social practices, and are now committed to upholding and furthering these. From becoming a Living Wage Foundation employer to constantly evaluating our habits in regards to waste and emissions, our B Corp certification is reflective of the hard work we put in to make the planet a better place for everyone on it.
