B Corp Month: Why Working With Fellow B Corps Matters
At Coaltown, B Corp Month is a chance to reflect on what it means to run a business that puts people, planet and purpose alongside profit. Since becoming a Certified B Corporation in December 2019, our mission has remained clear: to produce exceptional coffee while making a positive impact on the communities and environments connected to us.
But being a B Corp isn’t something we do alone. One of the most important parts of the journey is choosing to work with partners who share the same values and commitment to responsible business. B Corp certification represents businesses that meet high standards of verified social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. These companies believe that business should be a force for good and that success should be measured not just in profit, but in positive impact. At Coaltown, this philosophy shapes how we operate every day. From the way we source our coffee to how we support our team and community, we constantly strive to ensure our practices reflect the values behind the B Corp movement.
That same thinking extends to the companies we choose to collaborate with. By working with fellow B Corps, we strengthen a community of businesses committed to doing things the right way. We’re proud to work with several incredible B Corp companies whose values align closely with our own. Brands like Punchy Drinks, Prana Chai and Good & Proper are all part of the global B Corp movement. Each of these businesses focus on responsible sourcing, sustainable practices and creating products that prioritise both people and the planet.

Partnering with companies like these means we can offer great products while also knowing they are produced with the same care and responsibility we apply to our own coffee. We also extend this approach to collaborations, giveaways and events. When we run these, we prioritise working with B Corp businesses or other companies whose values align with ours, ensuring that every partnership reflects who we are. This way, even our marketing and creative projects support the broader mission of responsible business.
It’s about more than just stocking great drinks, it’s about building a network of businesses that support each other in raising the standard for the entire industry.
Our commitment to responsible business is reflected in our B Impact Score of 98.0, significantly higher than the average score of 50.9 for ordinary businesses that complete the assessment. To become a B Corp, companies must achieve a minimum score of 80, so reaching 98 represents years of work improving how we operate across the board.
For us, working with other B Corps isn’t about ticking a box or adding another certification to a product. It’s about ensuring the businesses we collaborate with share our ethos. Across our operations we focus on sustainability and responsible practices, including recyclable packaging, compostable pods, donations of coffee waste to local gardening groups for composting and support our team through living wages and workplace wellbeing initiatives. When the companies we work with share similar priorities, it strengthens the positive impact we can make together.
In celebrating B Corp Month, we’re reminded that responsible business is a journey, not a destination. At Coaltown, our commitment goes beyond producing exceptional coffee, it’s about building lasting partnerships with businesses that share our values, creating a network that supports people, planet and purpose at every step. By working with fellow B Corps and like-minded companies, we amplify our positive impact, ensuring that every cup we serve, every collaboration we run and every product we create contributes to a more sustainable and ethical world.
