Description:

Imbalu is a vibrant, fruit-forward coffee bursting with tropical sweetness and deep, indulgent character. Expect juicy notes of mango and pineapple balanced by rich dark chocolate and sticky raisins, creating a syrupy, complex cup with plenty of sweetness from start to finish. Roasted as an omni roast, it shines as a bold, expressive espresso while revealing layers of fruit and chocolate as a filter brew.

Grown in the foothills of Mount Elgon at elevations between 1,800 and 2,000 metres, this exceptional lot is produced at The Coffee Yard. Sourcing cherries from the surrounding districts of Sironko, Imbale, Bulambuli and Kapchorwa, Norman has spent nearly two decades refining his craft. Since 2018, he has specialised in natural and anaerobic processing, continually experimenting and fine-tuning his methods to produce the vibrant, distinctive flavour profiles his customers love.

The Coffee Yard has developed robust farmer traceability programmes while exchanging knowledge around coffee production and processing. Now in its second year, this collaboration has helped bring remarkable coffees to the UK and Europe, showcasing the exceptional quality and innovation emerging from one of Uganda's most exciting coffee-producing regions.

Our Coffee

Coffee is one of the world’s most complex and diverse agricultural commodities, cultivated in some of the most remote and beautiful regions on the planet. From the moment it’s planted to the final brew in your cup, every stage of the coffee journey matters. At Coaltown, we work directly with producers at origin, building strong, long-term relationships that support quality, sustainability, and mutual growth.

Our commitment to direct trade means we’re actively forging partnerships that go beyond standard certifications. We proudly pay above Fairtrade prices, ensuring that farmers are properly rewarded for their craft and empowered to invest back into their land and communities.
