Located on the slopes of Huye Mountain in Southern Rwanda, this coffee comes from a private washing station belonging to David Rubanzangabo, who is somewhat of a philanthropist. Around 1330 smallholder farmers regularly deliver their freshly picked coffee cherries to be processed at the facility, and the owner cares deeply for them all. He is constantly challenging the farmers in innovative ways to produce coffee of the finest quality, and recognises the potential that this can have on local communities. This driving force has resulted in Huye Mountain’s infamous success in the Cup of Excellence.
This Kabuye lot has complex plum and cherry tasting notes and a deliciously syrupy body that is testament to the area’s high altitudes and the meticulous work of the farmers. It is roasted very lightly to draw out the ripe fruit flavours that are so intimately linked to coffee production in Africa.
